Creative Commons is a non-profit organization that allows content creators to share their work with the larger community to promote open access and collaborative environment. Creators have the ability to choose the type of license wanted for their work in which the public must follow when adopting, or remixing the original work. The owner of the creative works can simply choose a Creative Commons license and state clearly on their work which license applies giving users of the creative work the parameters of use.

This license is often compared to “copyleft” free and open source software licenses. All new works based on yours will carry the same license, so any derivatives will also allow commercial use. This is the license used by Wikipedia, and is recommended for materials that would benefit from incorporating content from Wikipedia and similarly licensed projects. |
