ABOUT THIS GUIDE

Welcome to the West Valley College Library's Resource Guide for ESL Students!

 

Are you just starting to learn English?  Are you looking for ways to improve your language skills?  Browse through this guide and you'll find lots of tools and resources to help you. Use the tabs across the top of the page to navigate through the different sections. 

The guide focuses on reading, writing, listening comprehension, pronunciation, and grammar skills, but there are also other library resources you might like to try.  If you don't find what you're looking for, please ask us. 
 

Learning to speak, read, write, and listen to another language is not an easy task.  It takes a lot of work, time, practice, and dedication.   West Valley College Library is here to help you succeed!

 

OVERVIEW: WHERE TO LOOK FOR ENGLISH LANGUAGE RESOURCES

  • BOOKS:  Click on the "Find Books and More" tab above to find English and foreign-language dictionaries, thesauruses, grammar books, vocabulary builders, and easy readers, as well as general interest books on a wide range of topics.
  • ARTICLES:  Use the  "Find Articles" tab  to locate newspaper and magazine articles from our online databases.
  • WEB SITES:  The Web has some excellent ELL/ESL sites.  These can help you with every aspect of English language learning, from listening comprehension to pronunciation. 
  • Other WEB RESOURCES:  Blogs, podcasts, and RSS feeds offer still more ways for you to practice your listening, speaking and comprehension skills.
